Coming from overseas? From Dublin Airport, a comfortable ninety minute journey on the X20 coach costs EUR 10 and includes WiFi. Just make sure you get off in Athlone!
You can book a seat on the X20 up to one month in advance at this link. Use Dublin Airport as the origin (there are four stands but they are all adjacent, so choose any) and set destination to Athlone.
The full timetable is available at this link.
The venue is a three minute drive / ten minute walk from Athlone station where the bus will leave you and taxis are available. Map. Phone the organiser, Iarla on +353 87 993 2250 and we might be able to send a driver to get you. Provided the wine isn’t flowing yet 🙂
Alternatively, competitive car hire rates are possible using this service for around EUR 8.
Another option is the train which leaves Heuston station and stops in Athlone. This is not as practical from the airport but if you are already in Dublin City then it’s a valid option. The 748 bus goes from the airport to Heuston station but can take up to an hour and costs EUR 10 return. A taxi to Heuston station could cost over EUR 30. The train costs EUR 30 return and takes 90 minutes. If you are coming directly from the airport, the train station is not the best choice.
The venue is The Prince of Wales Hotel in Athlone.
The carpark has a capacity for 43 cars and anyone booked into the hotel can avail of these if there are free spaces, but this isn’t guaranteed. If you’re arriving later in the day and the carpark is full then the best option is Athlone Towncentre carpark which is a 5 minute walk from the venue. This is paid parking at a rate of EUR 3 for every 24 hours. Make sure you choose the Long Term parking area (Level B) to avail of this. Whatever day you’re leaving you just need to get your ticket validated in their office on Level A. Map: https://goo.gl/maps/HiGNVtN9FLQ2
